Verify my mortgage eligibility (Aug 12th, 2022)

I’ve recently introduced a lot of people here at Zenith to a book I’ve been reading, listening to, and studying called Positive Intelligence: Why Only 20% of Teams and Individuals Achieve Their True Potential and How You Can Achieve Yours.

I can highly recommend this book. His groundbreaking research exposes ten well-disguised mental Saboteurs. Nearly 95 percent of the executives in his Stanford lectures conclude that these Saboteurs cause “significant harm” to achieving their true potential. With Positive Intelligence, you can learn the secret to defeating these internal foes. Positive Intelligence (PQ)SM measures the percentage of time your mind is serving you as opposed to sabotaging you. While your IQ and EQ (emotional intelligence) contribute to your maximum potential, it is your PQ that determines how much of that potential you actually achieve.

One area of the book I’m finding particularly interesting is where you begin to recognize that every situation or outcome has within it a gift and an opportunity.

He uses this story as an example of what I’m referring to.

The Stallion Story

And old farmer lives on his farm with his teenage son. He also

has a beautiful stallion that he lovingly cares for.

The farmer enters his stallion into the annual country fair

competition. His stallion wins first prize. The farmer’s neighbors

gather to congratulate him on this great win. He calmly says,

“Who knows what is good and what is bad?” Puzzled by this

reaction, the neighbors go away.

The next week, some thieves who heard about the stallion’s

increased value steal the horse. When the neighbors come to

commiserate with the farmer, they find him again very calm and

gathered. He says, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

Several days later, the spirited stallion escapes from the

thieves and finds his way back to the farm, bringing with him a

few wild mares he has befriended along the way.

To his neighbors’ excited rounds of congratulations,

the old farmer once again says, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

A few weeks later, the farmer’s son is thrown off one of these

new mares as he is trying to break it in, and his leg is fractured.

As the neighbors gather to commiserate with the old farmer, he

once again reminds them, “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

The following week, the imperial army marches through the

village, conscripting all eligible young men for the war that has

just broken out. The old farmer’s son is spared due to his fractured leg.

The neighbors no longer bother to come to the old

farmer to congratulate him. By now they know what his response

will be: “Who knows what is good and what is bad?”

Cool story, right? I know in my own case, far too often I react to a negative situation/outcome in a very emotionally destructive way. And of course, reacting that way that never helps the situation. Since reading the book, I’ve been working on training my brain to slow down in every situation and outcome and look for the gift and opportunity. Whatever outcome just happened isn’t the end of time – and that is exactly what makes this idea so intriguing to me. So far, it has helped a lot.

I firmly believe I’ll be able to produce a better outcome for myself and everyone around me when I can master my PQ Brain.

This book reminds me of one of my favorite quotes I first read 30 + years ago, given to me by my good friend Billy Halax – Enjoy!

Quote of the week

“We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
